So I made this during my first week back. Yea basically I just put everything onto my plate and called it 'mixed salad'. The green element of the salad is uh hidden beneath everything else haha. Featuring: Egg tofu, Sauteed Mushrooms, Strawberries, Pan-fried Chicken, Boiled Carrots and Boiled Broccoli lol.
Was so excited when I finally had my mum's barley water again. So frustrating that the people back in Switzerland aren't big fans of Barley (idk if it's the Barley itself or if they don't like the way I make it). But anyway, this was so delicious! I really think the pandan leaves make all the difference (Since in Switzerland, all I have are brown rock sugar and dried winter melon)
I made Cream of Mushroom for dinner the other day and my aunt dropped off some durians for us (me). So yea this was what we had for dinner. I think I added in too much of my potato lol (Not like I had a choice. I only used 1 potato but it was huge. So I guess it made the soup really starchy and I didn't even have to add in much cream. But still. I think the potato only works well when I make Cream of Broccoli with Cheddar)
Same aunt bought us cheesecake sticks. This was divine! We got it from the Food Hall in Isetan and I really couldn't stop eating when the promotion lady was giving out samples lol. So happy my aunty decided to buy it for my sister and I! I loved the strawberry ones because I like all things strawberry hahaha! Anyway, the cheesecake's like Japanese style (is that how I describe it? Like you find it in Japanese bakeries lol)
Made this tofu dish the other day because I wanted to eat clean. Basically I just steamed the tofu and in a separate pan, I sauteed my minced pork with garlic and made a sauce mixture to go with it. Then I drizzled it all over the steamed tofu. Quite nice actually. The tofu tasted so fresh. Then I just made some stir-fried bok choy on the side heh. My mum saw this pic and she chided us for being so unpresentable lol. What! I was just taking it for my personal viewing purposes haha. And this is how we normally have dinner anyway. On recycled newspaper, no less.
Selfie with Chelsia at Rachel's last Monday!
Had Lobster Roll on Tuesday with Marcus. I was kinda disappointed because what I had at Burger and Lobster was so much better than this. But I guess considering the competitive price (SGD22 for a set), what could I have expected right. So the portion was quite small and the lobster mixture was tomato based. I couldn't really taste the mayonnaise too. So this was taken at Platypus Lobster Shack and on the menu there was a wide variety of different flavours for us to choose from for our Lobster Roll. So if this was the original flavour, I really don't know how the others would turn out hmmm. I guess the star of the dish was actually the truffle chips. Now that was pretty good and I could taste the truffle oil quite distinctively. I think this was quite a nice touch actually. Something different from the usual fries (which usually ends up making the meal rather jelat). Another suggestion could be sweet potato fries? I really liked the ones I had at G House along Dempsey Road. It was the first time I had sweet potato fries and I have always been skeptical about the concept of having a sweet version of my favourite snack of all time. But I was pleasantly surprised when I found the texture to be really similar to regular fries, but less oily and I liked the sweet taste to it too. So yes, I'm really into sweet potato fries now lol.
That's me being all pissed off and disappointed with my food. Actually no la. I think I was just trying to focus on taking a good shot. The plate was too big (which was quite ironic since the Lobster Roll itself was really tiny. The salad and chips took up the bulk of the space on the plate/tray). So yea, anyway now I know how my focused face looks like. Basically, that's my resting bitch face la.
Then on Wednesday, I met Yvett for ramen. We then bumped into Haoqing after dinner and he suggested the possibility of drinks after (since Kevin was with him too - they were out on their OG outing). So Yvett and I just walked around to search for dessert and ended up at Dean and Deluca for their rainbow cake. This is actually the first rainbow cake I've ever had because I've never found myself to be a cake person. So even though rainbow cakes have been around for quite sometime, I never saw the need to get my hands on one. But anyway, I tried this and I liked it too. Firstly, the colours were so pretty and bright! Some rainbow cakes I see online don't even have such vibrant colours la. But yea some people might actually be put off by such bright colours because it looks artificial to them. So the uglier the better I guess (since the cake would be perceived to have adopted a more natural colouring and is thus less preservative-and-food-colouring laden) Anyway, I'm really inclined to visually appealing stuff (people, clothes, food etc). So of course I'd prefer prettier stuff right-.- Anyway I liked the taste too lol. Because every coloured layer had a distinct flavour.
Red - Strawberry
Orange - Orange lol
Yellow - Lemon
Green - Apple
Blue - Blueberry
Purple - Grape
So yea, I really appreciated the effort put into making this and have I said this already? IT WAS REALLY PRETTY!
Ok so anyway, this was us before drinks! Everyone's either working or on internship now!
On Thursday, I had a Brunch meetup with Alissa and Mak. So nice to catch up with them and yes, we always have a lot of things to update each other on. Every single time. It's like our lives are so dynamic and full of developments lol. It's pretty interesting and exciting actually. I really can't wait to see how our meetings would be like 10 years from now. Hopefully we'll be married (maybe each with a kid or 2) I wonder what we would talk about then. Our jobs? Our husbands? Babies?
And then on Sunday, I met with this old friend. Who other than the glamorous Andrew hahah! Was also nice spending the evening with him catching up and camwhoring!
Anyway, I'm really glad everyone made time for me during these few weeks, especially since people are busy with their jobs, internships, orientation stuff and all. I guess we don't have to be there physically for each other 24//7. It's even more meaningful when after being away for 6 months, people still bother to put aside time to hang out with you and even after not being there for each other constantly, you manage to pick up from where you left off rather naturally. So I guess that's the beauty of friendship. We don't need to have a whole crowd, but rather a select few who would stand by you, at the right place and the right time.
