Ok so I realised I'm heavily reliant on brands under Campbell's. The moment of revelation came 5 mins ago when I was both hungry and resentful that I only had one precious can of Campbell's Wild Mushroom soup left. To me, it's like limited edition because they don't sell Campbell's here in Switzerland and being the creature of habit that I am, I refuse to try other brands (however limited the selection may be here). So anyway I went online to search if there was a possibility I could order canned soups and have it shipped to Switzerland. Yes this is how desperate I am. Turns out, the nearest country that sells Campbell's is the UK? And apparently Waitrose stocks it. But I don't even remember seeing the soups when I was in London a month ago! But they had my Sour Cream and Onion Kettle chips, which IMO is 100000x better because even Singapore has phased out on that flavour. The range of flavours Kettle has in Singapore's not that great I think. And that's why I just stick to boring old Lightly Salted when I buy Kettle in Singapore.
ANYWAY, so somehow I got linked to Campbell's wiki page and holy moly! Other brands that I absolutely love come under the Campbell's family. And no prizes for guessing that none of them can be found in wealthy old Switzerland-.- Seriously am I studying in a globalised first world country or not?????
So... the brands include
1) Prego
NO other pasta sauce brand can rival my Prego. Not even Barilla. When I came to Switzerland in June, I was prepared to take 4 bottles of Prego Fresh Mushroom sauce with me. But then I had to reduce it to 1 bottle because my luggage was overweight fml. And yea I know it's pretty ironic that I'm bringing pasta sauce to Switzerland when they're supposed to have better ingredients for making pasta here seeing to how we're in Europe and next to Italy-.- But still, Prego will always be #1 in my heart. And yea, I used it up 2 weeks ago and screwed up my cooking when I added in too much mozzarella cheese and made it too salty. NUUUUUU my one and only bottle:(
2) Swanson
Somehow I feel Swanson's chicken broth tastes different from other brands like Maggi and Knorr. I feel it tastes less artificial and I make better Chinese food with it. Risotto also actually. The small Swanson packet makes for a mean chawanmushi too! And I love to use the stock for my chicken macaroni soup. Just have to add canned mushrooms and ikan bilis to the chicken broth and voila! Delicious soup is served (especially with sesame oil drizzled on it mmmmmm) And again, I used up all my chicken broth (except for my large packet) in my second week when I happily decided to make Cream of Broccoli soup without verifying if I had any vegetable/chicken stock cubes left in the pantry. It wasn't until I had all my ingredients frying and sizzling away when I realised I didn't have any stock cubes except for the Swanson chicken broth that I had painstakingly brought from Singapore. So yea, used it up for my stupid soup:(
So yea dear Swiss supermarkets, please consider bringing in Campbell's and the brands under its umbrella (especially Prego and Swanson). I will be eternally grateful!
